- I think about death, and the actual process of dying, almost every single day
- I view a lot of my life from a 3rd person (or even omniscient) perspective - and often, I wonder if that makes me weird, or defective or something
- I seize the day but rarely live in the moment
- I think it's cute when Pucker sneezes
- I think it's gross when Mick or Rollie sneezes
- I wonder if there will ever be a time in my life I can chapter "the zen of Kat", instead of the "tao of Kat". Not that Tao is bad... it's just not zen, y'know?
- I can be negative
- I take a very long time to warm up to people. The 1st time I meet you is likely going to be quite a chilly experience, and I don't apologize for that. If you're true, you'll get it, and we'll wind up friends.
- I blame my Pisces moon for a lot of those emotions I really don't understand as a Libra
- I talk. A lot.
- If my husband isn't snoring at night I feel compelled to check his breathing. Let me clarify by saying "if I don't see movement or feel breath I can't get back to sleep".
- I've noticed that there are some mid-sized birds in my area that really look like they're working hard to maintain flight-balance. Watching their center/core try to steer straight is really like watching a little kid trying to maintain balance on a bicycle the first few times after they learned how to ride one without training wheels.
- I just noticed, the other day, that ducks have to flap their wings almost 3 times faster than any other bird their size. And the way they flatten their necks out when they fly, it's clear they have the impression they're going fast enough to consider aerodynamics are a factor in getting "there" faster or slower.
- If it's too sweet I can't really eat it, not usually anyway.
- I guess most times I'd rather be on the outside looking in. Not all the time, but most times.
- People think about souls, and heaven, and 2nd lives, and reincarnation, and all of those things we're so special and privileged to own as human experiences. But when I look at my dog, and I look at my cat, and I look at the beautiful birds I see on Sunrise Earth, and different types of primates and other "wildlife" I think... y'know... that's really not fair.
- The rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain.
- I am the type of person who would clean before the maid arrives.
- I don't care what my hair looks like. I don't wear dresses. And I'd rather be outside. But, I do wear deodorant. (hey, a girl's gotta draw the line somewhere)
- If I didn't become a geophysicist I probably would have become a camera person for a TV show or for a film company or something - if I was ever made knowledgeable these were even options.
- I'm mostly just boring.
- I wonder if my first thoughts are poetic and I ruin them by thinking.
- I think learning how to write ruined the purity of writing
- Why do I still think I'm going to eat the whole thing? I never ever do!
- What I wouldn't give for an authentic kolache right now
- I wonder who's idea "italics" was
- What is it about human nature that causes us to "want". No matter how much we have it always seems we want more.
- I dream in color. Every night. Bar none. I have to say it again.
- When my husband tells me my breath - eh hem-, that I could "use a tic-tac right now", it makes me want to kiss him even more.
- There's just some people I cannot help being oppositional with, and trust me, I try not to, in my head, but I just can't seem to stop.
- Someone's going to start a revolution, I just know it. I hope it's a positive one. I hope it brings human existence to a higher spiritual level. And I hope I'm here to witness the change.
- I've met lower level demons in my dreams before, and I've sat with the devil in a somewhat empty diner... Did I mention I dream in color, every single night, bar none?
- You're either born to do it, or you're not.
- My bat size of choice used to be a 36. A 38 if it was available. Aluminum. The sweet spot felt a mile long...
- Give me a reason. ... now ask yourself, "how did I read that?" Maybe presentation really is everything these days.
- Pi is a show-off
- There might be something innately wrong with "it's not in what you say, it's in how you say it".
- When you ask me what I'm thinking... the answer is... "there's no way you wanna hear all that"
- I read this the other day and it's what I've been trying to say my whole life... I was unbelievably thrilled that someone else had already put it into words. "The point isn't to live forever, it's to create something that will". <-------- That. Is me. If you know me, you knew that.
We went into The Henryton by way of the train tracks today. The walk was long, hot, and a wee bit sticky. On the way in we realized we forgot to bring water. Wonderful. And on the way out we realized I (Kat) may have forgotten my iPhone on the roof of our car. Ugh!
Tony said it wouldn't be there when we got back but I thought there was a possibilty there are still some good people in this world.
When we got back to our car we found this. My iPhone wrapped in napkins which were weighted down with rocks so people wouldn't see it and want to steal it.
I don't know who you are but thank you. From the bottom of my heart... You did a really nice thing for a stranger and it's not unappreciated. Pay it forward starts today (again, of course).
It's official, the Maine Ghost Hunters are on the road to Maryland. Henryton Sanitorium has a story and we're stoked to be a part of the team that gets to tell it. Investigation groups and teams from all over the country are coming together to deliver the message The Henryton has been disallowed to tell for too long.
Yeah, we're on a mission... A mission to deliver the message. They've waited long enough.
Picked up a book today, to help me understand how to handle different lighting situations. My lovely husband has informed me he now takes better pictures than I do. Pff. To that... I can only say, "Y'okay, if that's what gets y'thru the day". :)
I just had a thought. What's the difference between a hobbyist and an enthusiast?
I've been feeling not-so-good for a miserable couple of weeks now, and yesterday I was hit hard with a somewhat mild case of the flu. I say "hit hard" because when you're down and out for a couple of weeks even the smallest thing can wipe you out completely. Yesterday was one of those days. One minute I was in the car on our way to get groceries so I could make a nice big dinner, and literally 10 minutes down the road I was nauseas, reclined, dizzy, and all-but well. I wound up sleeping most of the day and all night. Still, this morning, I'm feeling slightly ...blah... But this rite here? Cranberry Squash Bisque? Oh.... My gosh... I'm feeling so much better. I just hope I don't regret this later on. Thinking positive... Thinking positive...
- The open faced sandwich is a fraud
- I heard drowning isn't such a bad way to go... I've never drowned but... I still disagree
- I saw quarantine the other night. I couldn't help it, I had to tell the guys "See? That's what I'm talking about. You do not want to get rabies!"
- I wonder how many heroes have died for people who will never know their name
- Evil can't look at its own reflection. That's why there's sometimes mirrors on the outside of homes. I just learned that last week.
- Why do they call it a mushroom cloud. It looks more like a jellyfish to me
- Is it me, or is the gap between Madonna's two front teeth getting bigger as she ages?
- I can't wear turtle necks or anything touching the lower front of my neck
- Favorite geologic formations (today) - entrenched meander (terrace farming), oxbow lakes, kettle ponds, atolls, and pillow lave (always)
- A canary in a mineshaft won't save as many people as coral bleaching. Pay Attention
- I hate puzzles. I find them inanely pointless. I do them sometimes, but only to prove to myself there's no challenge in cookie cutter entertainment
- Lewis Carol was a pervert, does anyone even remember that?
- Salinger's Bananafish... I think about it sometimes, and I don't know why. I don't know what sparks it. I see the guy on the beach and I think "is this responsibility? or is this nothing more than guilt... and is one any better than the other?"
- For me, the jury's still out on The English Patient
- They say the most powerful marketing word is "free". I see that word and think "gimmick"
- I'm really allergic to leaves of three. My husband isn't... At all. This sometimes results in a minor catastrophe
- Silly putty was probably one of the world's best mistakes... Besides penicillin but... you get what I'm sayin'

Maine was hit with a big snowstorm last night, the likes of which we haven't seen in a while. It caused a whiteout that canceled schools in districts that ranged from Southern Maine all the way up through Northern Maine, which is really super strange. I can't remember the last time that happened. But get this, even more strange is the fact that Downeast schools were canceled, too. If you're from Maine, and you hear that on the news, one of your first reactions is "[pause....scrunched eyebrows]...huh?"
Maine is one of those places that the weather changes so quickly and is so different in the different places of the state that having similar conditions in locations as far away as Northern Maine and Southern Maine is just weird... and to add the Eastern Coast of Maine to that duo? It's bizarre, as far as I'm concerned. When it's snowing inland, it's raining on the coast. Up North is usually bracing for a storm we're suffering from because they're so far away, and they have mountains and foothills between here and there. It's been a definite weird day here on the home front.
There's roughly 120 or so miles from the Southern tip of Maine to the city of Bangor, which is the edge of anywhere
and nowhere at the same time, and both places were dealing with the same white-out misery. It blew my mind; but when I saw the Channel 6 Storm Center team tell the audience that there's so many school listings for closures this morning that there's no way humanly possible to name them all - and the for posterity's sake, one of the anchors held up a stack of paper and flipped through what looked to be about 12 or more sheets of paper, while saying "these are all of the listings this morning. Chances are, if you can see this broadcast, your school is on this list" to reinforce the fact... I figured it was pretty bad out there. We couldn't see our any of our windows because the wind had blasted snow through all of the screens on all sides of the house, lol... again, I can't remember the last time that has happened. Heck, I can't remember the first time that has ever happened.
I think this morning's defining moment of "Huh.... I guess we got hit with a storm last night..." was when the News Center team tagged the 3 regions of the state I mentioned above, as being affected by the snowfall. I mean, if you live here and you hear the Southern town of York named as having a school closing, and you're in Central or Mid-Coast Maine like we are, you figure there's still a possibility there's school in your area. But when you hear the town of York mixed in with the city of Bangor you're definitely taken off-guard. But then, when you hear the Southern town of York, the Northern city of Bangor, and then the DownEastern town of Ellsworth all named at the same time in the same Storm Center report - it's like total madness.
So basically, we didn't go anywhere today. The mail was still delivered, which was incredible, but the garbage guy took
the day off. Can't say as I blame him. The plow guy didn't arrive until mid-morning and he's usually here between 3:00 am and 6:00 am.I guess there was a downed tree in the middle of the driveway. My husband said he could drive under it, barely, so RocketBoy went out first thing and took an axe to it. The dogs have been loving the snow, they always have, so this was great fun for them.
I think the best part about this storm is that the trees are caked on 1/2 to 3/4 of their surface. It's awesomely pretty. I look out my windows and see a winter wonderland... it makes me wish I was at a mountain somewhere so I could take advantage of the fresh powder because there's just so much of it. I was thinking of building a snowfort with RocketBoy today but the powder isn't optimum snowfort material. We'll have to wait until it gets a wee bit sticky before we can do anything with it.
I guess that's pretty much the lowdown here on the home front. We lost power for about 4 seconds earlier today, and the Satellite was out pretty much all morning and well into the early afternoon, but the weirdest thing is the upstairs television worked just fine. It was the downstairs TV that couldn't get a signal. Kinda frustrating but I had so much to do today I hardly even noticed.
